Whos behind Everlast Plastic Lumber Inc? Everlast Plastic Lumber Inc. is owned and operated by the Cougle family. Mr. Robert Cougle (president and CEO) founded Everlast (est. 1997) initially as an outlet for otherwise non-recyclable plastics that are a bi-product of the commingle sorting process at his recycling facility. Mr. Cougle, the second-generation owner of Cougles Recycling Incorporated, was looking for an alternative to landfilling mixed (off spec) plastics which was an usable bi-product from commingle sorting. At the time there was no market for mixed plastics and Robert was approached with the idea of using it to create plastic lumber. Upon purchasing the plastic lumber extrusion equipment, it was quickly determined that there was a lot to learn in the plastic lumber manufacturing business. It was also determined that, in order to create a product that would be accepted as a wood alternative to the public, the use of this mixed (off spec) plastic would need to stop. We then began to produce EPL from strictly the recycled HDPE #2 (milk jugs). Overtime we have taken a number of steps both large and small to improve our finished product (such as changing the form and type of UV stabilizer added, obtaining reliable and consistent color suppliers, and installing a washing/drying system, etc). Although we as a team at Everlast have many years of experience under our belts, we will continue to experiment and strive to continuously improve our product and operation.
Cougles Recycling Inc. Cougles Recycling Inc. is a family owned and operated full service recycling center that has been in business for over 60 years. Cougles Recycling accepts drop off materials from individuals and small offices. They also offer hauling services for pickup of recyclables at small businesses, large corporations, boroughs and townships, as well as some national accounts. The business relationship between Cougles Recycling and Everlast close the full recycling circle. In that circle trash is being made into an ideal finished product.
About Our Product:
Everlast Plastic Lumber is a product that is made of 100% recycled plastic HDPE. Materials that are made of HDPE natural include milk jugs, spring water jugs, some juice bottles and iced tea containers. We add a few chemicals to protect our product from polymer breakdown associated with extreme exposure to sun and weather elements. A colorfast pigment is also added to the product to give the finished product its ultimate board color.
Everlast currently offers a number of profiles, and seven stock colors to suit varying customer tastes and building needs.
Why Everlast Plastic Lumber?? Everlast is a family owned business with a true interest in creating a quality product to satisfy customers outdoor construction needs, while keeping in mind the importance of the world around us. Since Everlast is made of 100% recycled plastic and is a maintenance free solution, we envision Everlast as the true product of the future.
Everlast Plastic Lumber – whats it really made of?? Everlast Plastic Lumber is made of 100% recycled HDPE plastics (household milk jugs, water bottles, and clear iced tea containers). Everlast does contain colorfast pigments, and additives for UV stabilization (to prevent polymer breakdown in the sun and intense weather exposure).
What makes Everlast different then wood? Everlast is a much denser and heavier product (most comparable with oak lumber) while being much more flexible then wood. Everlast needs to be properly supported at all times. This flex needs to be taken into consideration whenever outdoor landscaping projects or deck designs are planned. We would suggest the span on the decking material be no greater then 12 on center.
Everlast will expand and contract; this is a natural characteristic of plastic. Problems with expansion and contraction can be avoided if installation instructions are properly followed, therefore the Everlast warranty does not cover expansion/contraction.
Everlast is maintenance free. Once Everlast has been installed, you will never need to make time for sealing, staining or painting. Everlast comes in seven colors, which are solid from the exterior of the board to the core of the product. Install Everlast and relax.
Everlast will not absorb water. Because Everlast is non-porous and contains only plastic, it will not swell, leach, warp or rot even with constant exposure to water. Everlast is actually ideal for applications that include continuous water submersion or exposure.
Everlast is impervious to insects, and bug infestations.
What makes Everlast different then a composite lumber? Everlast unlike composite lumber, does not contain any filler (such as wood, rice grain, etc.) Everlast is made from 100% recycled HDPE plastic. Since Everlast does not contain fillers, it is non-porous and does not absorb water. Composite materials do have a much greater life span then regular pressure treated lumber but over time can still be greatly changed and adversely effected by weather (when wood filler is added in very high quantities boards can rot over time or weather as if it were almost regular wood). Although composite material may be a wonderful choice for a covered deck, it may not be the best choice for areas exposed to weather or water since most composites do absorb water over time and the board structure/integrity can be greatly compromised.
